I read several of the reviews after I bought the book but before the book arrived. I am 42 years old, and a veteran of self-help. I began my self-help journey when my last child was born when I was 26 years old. During that journey, I built my life from a trailer-trash person living in chaos to the Mother of the Year Award-receiving, self-trained entrepreneur I became. As my children became grown and then gone, the things I identified myself with, the labels I placed upon myself, the passions that drove me, the purpose I had went with them. Pretty typical. But, because of my history with self-help, I assumed I would be immune. After all, I know who I am, right? I know what I want, don't I?In this new evolution of my existence, I revisited my familiars. Abraham-Hicks, Wayne Dyer, Don Miguel Ruiz - - I'm sure you guys know them, as well. Their words, while valuable, fell flat for me. Meditation, yes. Being still, yes. Listening to the inner voice, yes. I listed myself to death - to-do list, action list, five year list, three year list, one year list, daily plan to accomplish the lists. Positive affirmations written on little yellow sticky notepad and placed everywhere. Big whoop.I accidentally happened on The Fire Starter Sessions. I was cruising Amazon looking for some dog mats to lessen the dirt traffic into the house from the doggy door. Down in a little corner was The Fire Start Sessions, Look Inside. So, I did. It intrigued me enough to buy it. I also visited Danielle Laporte's website to get a feel for the author. The website is AMAZING! It's frenetic and energetic. The energy that went into building the website bounces right off the screen. It puts you in an amazing mood immediately. Takes you out of the mundane and the humdrum and instills passion.Some of the reviews have said that the book is quippy, does not provide any real information, gives too much sass, and has everything you have heard before. I agree with all of that, but without the negative undertone. Danielle Laporte is refreshingly quippy, saucy, and sassy. Thank God! Someone put some personality into a book! Yes, Wayne Dyer's calm demeanor is wonderful (and I LOVE me some Wayne Dyer) - but I'm not calm! I don't want to be calm. I want to be fired up! I want to be passionate! I want my life to be a kick ass life! I want to be self-aware, but I want to be awesomesauce self-aware, not meditative self-aware!Yes. At 42, I use words like awesomesauce. As a matter of fact, my kids and I text the word awesomesauce to each other.In a nutshell, if you are new to the self-help game, this book is great! If you are a veteran of the self-help game, this book is GREAT! It is refreshing, it is youthful (thankfully!), it is powerful, it is motivational. It is fun without being silly. It is witty without being asinine. It is an inspiring beginning to get back to the core you, the authentic you, and reinvent your Self and your circumstances.I also bought The Desire Map, which I will read after working through the Fire Starter Sessions. I'm excited about it!
This book gave me fascinating insight while allowing me to understand my business goals, and remove subconscious blockers that were standing in my way. The best part is that I was able to discover my big why and the feeling attached to it.
I loved the questions asked in this book as it made to think about what I truly want and important to achieve in my life. It was a guide for me to rethink my priorities and what to do to achieve them in a step-by-step manner without someone telling me what to do. I also learned that I should direct my goals and priorities, not anyone else.
This is a great book that really gave me motivation to define what my passions are and how to pursue them successfully. It has reflective worksheets at the end of every "session" that help you get clarity on the steps you need to take to achieve your dreams! Written with a very relatable, encouraging voice, I came away with a better idea of how to make the world a better place by taking advantage of my strengths. Will definitely return to this book in the future. Thank you Danielle!
I read this for my book club and thoroughly enjoyed it. I looked forward to reading a chapter (a session) and working on the exercise at the end of each session, every morning. That daily dosage of inspiration gave a jumpstart to my days. It felt like I was attending a workshop and not just reading a book. I could almost hear the author, Danielle, addressing me in her friendly, conversational style. I never felt bored. Instead, I found myself nodding along, highlighting most of what I read and adding my own thoughts.She encourages her readers to be true to themselves. "Study yourself", "Find your inner voice" and "Do a little more of what you really want to be doing everyday, and a little less of what you don't want to do, until eventually, your reality is brimming with the real ideal" are some of her mantras. Her thoughts on time management, money management, giving felt so liberating to me, like like I'd been doing what didn't come naturally to me, until nowAnswering the questionnaires at the end of each session helped me learn so much about myself. Doing the "Ideal Day" exercise made me realize that I was already almost-living my ideal life; The questions at the end of money management chapter showed me that my needs are pretty simple and that I had enough money to spend on things that truly matter to me- Education and Travel.I highly recommend this book to anybody who "didn't sign up for good enough in this lifetime", as the author says, :You signed up for awesome". I know I did.
If you're looking for inspiration and a way to gain a new perspective on things, read this book! Danielle shares so many great ideas and gives practical ways to accomplish what you've been dreaming about, big or small. At the end of each chapter, there is an exercise (or two) to do in order to help you dive deeper into your thinking and what you want. I'm only half-way through but I already intend to go back through when I'm done and complete all the activities separately so that I can truly gain knowledge from what she shares.
I love Danielle Laporte! She is incredibly inspiring and if you need motivation to get off your ass and start taking some steps, this is the book for you!

MIKE RITLAND joined the Navy in 1996 and graduated with BUD/S class 215. After years as a member of SEAL Team 3, he became a BUD/S instructor and then started his own company to train dogs for the SEAL teams. Today he continues to supply working and protection dogs to a host of clients, including the U.S. government and Department of Defense. He also started the Warrior Dog Foundation to help retired Special Operations dogs live long and happy lives after their service.

This book was an excellent read. 1st off: Thanks to Mr. Ritland and all the SEALS, all military personnel, handlers, trainers, 1st responders, and to all the Warrior Dogs out there for your service!!I just obtained my 1st Belgian Malinois "Axe" (named in honor of Matthew Axelson- SEAL in Operation Red Wings). I am seeking the mindset and knowledge needed to properly train him for Search and Rescue for Campbellsville, KY Fire Dept Special Operations Division. Axe will be with me on high angle rappelling/rescue, swift water rescue, River Boats, SCUBA, land search, etc...Without access to this elite training, I am seeking out information to train myself and Axe in the SEAL mentality and as close to the physical training as possible so no victim suffers due to a lack of training. This book has started me off on the right foot that we needed as we build our team with his brother "Murph" (named in honor of Mike Murphy SEAL-Operation Red Wings).Thanks again for this book and for your service! This is an excellent book on the selection, training and operations of Navy Seal Dogs. The author describes his love of dogs, his entry into the Navy and his eventual ascension to the SEALS. He found his calling training SEAL Dogs and their handlers for combat. The author describes the training in detection, tracking and apprehension and how soldiers lives have been saved by the actions of these highly trained dogs. There are numerous stories of canines and their handlers in combat and throughout the emphasis is on the bond that develops between the handler and his/her dog. There is an appendix at the end of the book on the use of dogs in the military from WW1 to present times, this section was eye opening and informative. The author is now involved with Military Working Dogs that are retired from active combat and helping them adjust to this stage of their life. If you are a Dog lover and a NAVY SEAL admirer you are in for an informative, action filled read about mans best friend and their importance in todays world involving dangerous operations. Recommended.
All dogs give, but these dogs give everything. If you like K-9 dogs this is a great book. It isn't the idea of war that is attractive but the willingness and eagerness with which these dogs are willing to give us everything they have without question. I was also pleased with the author's consistent warning throughout the book that this breed is NOT for everyone, not for the first-time owner or someone who just wants to sit around with a pet. These are dogs that need a job and will ruin your life without one. And very few are suitable for k-9 work.These are exceptional dogs trained by exceptional people to do exceptional things. The stories are great but what I liked better were reading about training methods used and how intensely bonded the dogs and handlers become.If you love dogs and are interested in K-9 type work, this is a great book.
Started a little slow and it seemed the author was searching for material to fill out the book. However about 1/3rd of the way through it got very interesting especially with the stories of actual dogs in real-life situations. Needless to say, I was impressed with how well the dogs were trained and how useful they proved themselves.I'd recommend the book to anyone who is a dog lover or who enjoys reading about the exploits of Navy SEALs. I'd especially recommend the book to anyone who owns a guard-type or protection dog. But these dogs are in a totally different category than your run of the mill family pet who happens to be a certain breed. These pups are something else!
This is a very heart warming read, even though it made me cry at the same time, because the stories pulled on my heart strings. I have a special place in my heart for my father and brother who served our country in time of war. Wll, Korean War and the Vietnam War and all those who serve our country. I'm retired law enforcement and have great respect for the heroism of the hard working, dedicated and loyal dogs that keep us safe, whether in the military, law enforcement or private security.God Bless you Michael Ritland for your endless devotion and passionate love you have for dogs.
I definitely enjoyed reading Mike's Book. I would definitely recommend it to a friend's and others that have such interesting. I also think people that are interested in canines for their personal use would enjoy and benefit from reading this book. A great book on the history of pizza. I love the art work! If you love pizza you should love this book and you might learn a little more about your favorite food!
Somehow, in my haste, I missed that Pizzapedia: An Illustrated Guide ..., is *not* a cook-bookI began at the front (not necessary, if it had been a cook-book), thinking that there would be an introductory section on the history of pizza, its regional variations, etc, but even when it became apparent that there would likely be no room for recipes, I kept reading, *often* aloud, regaling my husband with Pizzapedia's amazing esoterica, and most charming illustrations(!!)I *so* want to share this book, that I've been considering who might be "Pizzapedia-worthy", among our friends & relatives. And I think that I might buy a copy for the CPA who quit his job to buy a pizza restaurant, which he happily works in, 364 days a year, here in our Upstate NY community.Suggestion: As a gift for someone, buy a copy of Pizzapedia: An Illustrated Guide ..., & include 1 or more gift certificates to 1 or more pizzerias.
Beautiful and varied illustrations serve this whimsical yet fact-filled chronicle of pizza history. Even if you are fairly knowledgeable about pizza, you’ll end up learning something new. Highly recommend.
Pizzapedia is a great read! I have a bunch of watercolour sketchbook/ guide/ travel books and this is one of my favourites! The illustration is fantastic and the writing is great. Get this one!
I did not expect pizza encyclopedia or a cookbook. This book is perfect for me and I’m older than 5x12 years. The illustrations are beautiful and somehow remind me about Norman Rockwell. Pizza crust looks so real , I feel the taste of it. The book has perfect amount of information that’s why it doesn’t feel like you have to study it. Great job !
