True. He is so true. Max Vance teaches us the rules of this world in a plain, persuasive languege like a good leader. He speaks powerfully straight out of his own experiences and based on his direct observastions. He is honest. He believes in what he says. And he speaks only of what he enjoys most. No BS. His language flows so smooth you just cannot stop once you start reading. You read with relaxation and finish it in excitement. The Philippines and Filipnias, the materials for his lesson prepared to help you get out of your own shell, are perfect choices. They are two things that occupy my mind day and night and I know it is the case with many millions of guys who flock to the Philippines. The lesson sank to the core of my brain. The techniques you learn here are applicable anywhere and everywhere. This is definitely one valuable book worth much more than you pay for it.

I found this book to be pretty darn offensive, partly because it endorses the mistreatment of women, and partly because any tourist following its advice will only help to cement the view of Ugly Foreigner in the eyes of Filipinos.I bought it because I am interested in meeting and making friends with Filipinos (and I do know a few). But, given that the author's primary piece of advice, repeated over and over, is to "lie," I think it's fair to say that this book is not for anyone looking for meaningful relationships, romantic or otherwise.Look, I am not a prude, and I have no problem with anything that consenting adults choose to do. And yes, I do understand that there are scammers in the Philippines, just as there are scammers in every country in the world. But if you approach every meeting with another human as a potential conquest, and your modus operandi is deceit, then you aren't really giving the other person the opportunity to consent, because you are presenting only a false facade.Now, if your goal is simply to have sex with as many women as possible, and you have no ethics about getting more notches in your belt, then I guess maybe you'll find some useful tidbits in this book. But, please ask yourself, would you be OK with another man using the "principles" in this book to seduce your sister or daughter?C'mon, guys, grow up. I have had relationships with beautiful women much younger than I, in several different countries, and I have never had to lie to any of them. (And no, I did not pay them.) I think you'd be surprised at how well honesty and kindness can work. Besides, given the boorish behavior of most male tourists in places like the Philippines, your truthfulness will make you stand out like a unique gem.Oh, and by the way, the use of the word "travel" in the book's title is a bit of a lie. (But given the author's penchant for dishonesty, why am I surprised?) There is next to zero useful travel advice.

Before amazon, this book couldn't have been published. Whatever your feelings are on the subject matter, this is excellent writing. I'm currently starting another title from this author.

i bought this book because one of the reviews gave it a 1 star for having the types of things i was looking for in a book. So a special shout out to Daniel B. for unknowingly promoting this book while he was actually trying to disparage it.The book is thorough and helpful.

Hilarious humor. Max is like the cool uncle that knows his way around for sure. He Shows you the scams and money shake down methods used in the Philippines and how to thwart them. The book is worth many times the cost if you know how to just avoid transportation scams alone. He teaches you how to walk away from potential rip offs and trouble. Great Read, Thanks Max. I find it sad that one needs to write a manual on how to BUY a woman. More often than not sex tourists have no idea how badly they are looked upon by the indegenous, then they wonder why they get robber when their partner leaves them ripping them off! So basically this is a guide on how not to get ripped off when you are thinking about sex tourism! The truth behind it is that there is no honesty, love or friendship in a relation that lives based on what this book is all about... Eventually these pathetic old men will see their young wifes or partners run off with a younger, more beautiful and more intelligent man... There's nothing clever or cumming about all this... Just a pathetic old men trying his best at keeping his youth, not accepting he's getting older and unable to accept that no woman his age actually really wants him...since those in a loving, stable, responsible and caring relationship have no need for this low life style... They would travel to the Philippines with their wife and enjoy it! Instead of scheming...working out which fake name to give or what age to pretend to be... Haha hurray for honesty! What a pathetic story!!!! I would encourage any man taking this book seriously to actually engage their brain, rathe than what's in their underwear... If that's in any way possible!

Miessler and Tarr are the standard for Inorganic Chemistry. Whether you are a professor or a student you should be using Miessler and Tarr for Inorganic Chemistry. (I would recommend getting one of the newer editions). However, the 4th edition add color images, and re-arranges some things. Other than that, content wise, it's the same as the 3rd edition.

I used this book for my undergraduate course in Inorganic. I thought it did it's job pretty well. The explanations were simple and easy to follow. If you need practice problems with solutions, however, you would need supplementary material.

I found the text difficult to read and understand without taking Physical Chemistry.

Inorganic chemistry is an interesting class, and this book is much cheaper to rent or buy than the newest 5th edition. The only draw back is that you need the solutions manual (which sells separately).

Front binding is coming apart but it's manageable. The pages are in great condition (practically new) which is the important part.

Loved the class. The book was a little dry though.

Very accessible book, read it from cover to cover. The material isn't always the easiest but I feel that the book describes very visual concepts and computational concepts extremely well. Best chemistry book I've had, though this is the only inorganic chemistry book I own.

About the Author

Geshe Lhundub Sopa (1923–2015) trained as a scholar monk at Sera Je Monastic University in Lhasa and was debate partner for the Dalai Lama in 1959 before fleeing his homeland of Tibet in the wake of the Chinese Communist Occupation. After arriving in the United States in 1963, he taught first in New Jersey before moving to Madison, Wisconsin, in 1967 to teach at the university. Eventually becoming a full professor, he trained a generation of Western scholars. He also founded Deer Park Buddhist Center in Oregon, Wisconsin, which hosted the Dalai Lama's first Kalachakra initiation in the West in 1981. Geshe Sopa passed away at Deer Park in 2015. Dechen Rochard has a B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy (University of London) and a PhD in Buddhist philosophy (University of Cambridge). She also completed a traditional ten-year study program in Buddhist Philosophy at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (Dharamsala, India). She is currently working for The Dalai Lama Trust translating texts.

It is a privilege and a delight to be the first to review this amazing book. I don't use that word lightly. As a student of Tibetan Buddhist since 1983 I have sought to immerse myself in both practice and detailed study. But this book (volume five in the series) has been keenly anticipated by me as it is the first truly comprehensive commentary and overview of Tsongkhapa's famous presentation of supramundane insight in his masterpiece: "Lam rim chen mo" (The Great Treatise on the Stages on the Path to Enlightenment).Geshe Sopa's approach is not only informed by his immense personal scholarship and insight, but also his anticipation, based on so many decades of teaching at an American university, of those subtle areas where a western student not directly trained within the debating rigours of the Tibetan monastic tradition might need some special assistance in approaching topics that confound even traditional established scholars and great meditators. But at no point does he seek to gloss over details or jump difficult topics in a bid to make Tsongkhapa's intricate presentation of emptiness somehow more approachable, quickly digestible to a Western reader. Indeed, some pages are so complex that I have only been reading two or three at a time and then contemplating them for a whole day before proceeding. One might call this "slow reading" but it is also a form of the most rewarding meditation as the purpose of Tsonghapa's text and Geshe Sopa's commentary is not to swamp us with philosophically intricate rhetoric but to drive a wedge in the hard block of our ignorance that blocks us from cognising the reality of how things, in reality, exist. What could be more important and worthy a task than this? So I am not being flippant when I say that one should treasure this book as a lifelong heart companion.Dechen Rochard, the editor, an impressive scholar in her own right, and a dedicated student of Geshe Sopa has worked on this book for many years, working closely with Geshe Sopa and then bringing it to fruition following Geshe Sopa's passing away in August 2014. So I wish to extend my deep thanks and gratitude to her also. And likewise, dedicate "the merit of the present volume to the swift reincarnation of Geshe Soap Rinpoche and to the continuing presence of all our teachers, especially His Holiness the Dalai Lama." As His Holiness himself says in his personal foreword to this precious book: All Tibetans should feel honoured and proud that Geshe Sopa, a man from far-away Tibet, could rise to the highest levels of Western academic attainment early on the basis of his Tibetan monastic education combined with his own brilliance and personal qualities. Publication of this excellent series of books {referring to the earlier volumes in the series] is a fitting tribute to an illustrious career"My only small quibble is that the index does not do justice to the subject matter. For example, the famous "one and many" method of performing an ultimate analysis is not indexed. Likewise, though the Jonangpa school is discussed, it is not indexed either. The view of the transitory collection is extensively discussed, but is simply cross-referenced to "egotistical view." But as egotistical view has an entirely different connotation in Western psychological discourse, and even popular parlance, this might prove confusing to the reader unaccustomed to trends in contemporary academic buddhist scholarship. In the end I started my own reference system. However, this is certainly not a deal breaker. And it is certainly vastly better than the pattern of publishing buddhist texts and commentaries without indexes at all - which seems to be becoming increasingly popular. In the end I purchased the e-book version also so that I could do searches for key terms. But that’s ok.I would like to finish with one poignant quotation from the text itself:"Tibetan scholars say that after Candrakirti, the Indian Madhyamaka was clearly divided into two: Svatantrika-Madhyamakka and Prasangika-Madhyamaka. When studying Madhyamaka it is important to understand both systems because we need to develop our reasoning skills in order to rid ourselves of ignorance. Ignorance is the cause of sentient beings' bondage in samsara, and the only antidote to ignorance is to develop a correct understanding of emptiness in accordance with the Madhyamaka view. Ignorance is an innate mind that incorrectly grasps its object. We cannot dispose of it simply like an old shirt." (page 315).If we could discard it so simply, why would the great masters like Candrakirti, Bhavaviveka, Buddhapalita, Tsongkhapa, and Geshe Sopa himself not have dispensed with all the complexity and simply pointed out a simpler and more efficient way? Why didn't the Buddha for that matter? But the task of tackling the ingrained habits of an ignorance so deeply habituated that we can't even or easily identify it as such requires other kinds of weapons entirely. So in the age of the ready-made and the home-delivered bite-sized chunk, this book, laden with jewels, is a means of penetrating deeper and deeper into realms of understanding that open like magic upon arrival. it does actually all make the most profound sense. So our effort as readers is immensely rewarded.As my teacher in Melbourne, Australia, the Ven Geshe Doga said: "There is no such thing as emptiness for Westerners". But to say this does not mean there is only emptiness for Tibetans, etc. either. It means we should relish our current personal capacity for intelligent investigation of the way things actually are, not the way they inherently appear to be due to the imprints of innate self-grasping ignorance. To rest with our idle presumptions or unexplored ordinary perceptions is to simply waste precious time.

I bought this map for a driving trip from Florence to the Val D'Orcia area, planning to highlight the route of the driving tour recommended in a guidebook. I was disappointed to find that the map lacked detail, and did not show several roads that were shown on the map in my guidebook and in Google Maps. Also, I found it hard to identify some road numbers. I ordered Touring Club Italia's "Siena e Val d'Orcia Regional Map" instead, and it has what I need. Nat Geo's map is fine for what it is, but I needed something more detailed.Finally, the map has a water resistant coating that is great for durability, but means that it will smudge if you try to use a highlighter on it.

Not suitable as decorative wall poster illustrating a walking tour of Tuscany we took a few years ago. Probably useful as a road map if there are any people who don't use GPS.

What can I say - there is no other map better. I drive a motorcycle and I've found no other map with the level of detail and information that I can fold up, fold over, fold any way I need for my particular view needs and place in my "tank bag" in addition to the water/rain resistence. I've tried other maps who claim to be foldable and water resistent but nothing beats the National Geographic quality.

It is a beautiful map. If you speak Italian all the better, Huge map very small printing. Take you time and you will find what you are looking for.My suggestion pick you destinations before you leave you home country, Use a GPS also with this map and you will be fine.

A really sturdy (tear resistant and waterproof) of a sufficient size to be very useful while traveling. It is a little bigger than the average U.S. state map, but that only makes it more useful, since the number of cities and town listed in the index is so large. Easy to locate places, and enough detail to easily estimate distances and routes. Overall, and great map for traveling.

We purchased this map to do a self guided bike tour of Tuscany. The map lacked many of the road names and roads that we encountered on our trip. I originally thought that it had a great deal of detail provided but once on the ground, it was lacking. Thankfully we had google maps available on our phone.

In the era of GPS, there is still a role to be played by detailed paper maps. We found hillside gardens we would have missed but for this map.

These are the best maps on the planet, especially if you take them into the wild and need a reliable guide that it sturdy.
