I love this series and being a bit a of crazy cat lady, was excited to find out that the new book would be cats! If you like the series you'll love the book.Here are some pictures of the pictures on the inside. I thought youd find it helpful since this listing doesnt include the contents.
The creators of this book series have been the best of the best every time. I have bought every single Paint by Sticker. I even preordered this one. The stickers always are cut perfectly which can't be said about other sticker books. They have amazing, more realistic art. I love that all the pages are perforated so you can choose to remove the sticker pages or remove the final product to hang up. Stickers are easy to remove from the paper. Just awesome book overall.
My 11-yr old son is really enjoying these color-by-sticker books. I found a sticker book by a different manufacturer at a convenience store. When I couldn't find another one, I turned to Amazon (because you can find everything on here!)... these books are so much better than that first one I got him. These "Paint By Sticker" books by Workman had the best reviews - and rightfully so! The pages are thicker and there are more stickers per picture. He really likes the extra challenge with all the pieces. I will be ordering more of these for him.
Workman Publishers are one of the better sticker books but had some room for improvement with some of their work; however, although I've only finished two pictures, these have come out PERFECTLY!! I wish they would go back and revamp some of the others (Master Pieces and Travel). Very pleased, glad I bought two, and wish they would make new ones faster!! Would highly recommend.
I wasn't sure how I'd like this, but these are really enjoyable, relaxing, and take up a good amount of time. I was getting tired of my coloring books, so I ventured out, and I think I actually like these more! These actually help with my anxiety, because your mind is so focused on matching the right sticker to the right spot, that you just forget about everything else around you for those moments.This is the first brand that I purchased, and am satisfied with the quality. I don't have any trouble getting the stickers on/off the pages. Compared to other books I've looked at, these pictures are way more involved with a wide variety of sticker size, so even though there's only 12 pictures in here, they'll keep you going for longer than a book with say 24. I still haven't managed to do one without leaving white spaces between at least a few of the stickers, but I'm getting better, and if you have enough patience, and a steady enough hand I'm sure it's possible to create a seamless picture. I'm also not going for a frame-worthy quality picture, just something to kill time and help me relax.
This is perfect if you have anxiety. It’s requires just enough brain power to cause distraction from a panic attack.
Bought this for my 10 year old grand daughter. I think it will take some concentration on her part but the results will be beautiful. Might have to buy myself one. The price was great too. Saw the same exact book in a catalog for quite a bit more.
I am addicted to Paint by Sticker books but they just don’t make them quick enough. This particular company is the best one on the market because they stick well and are correctly sized and easy to tear sticker pages out.. fun hobby.

My 8-year old son reads a lot of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books and that sort of "book" :/, so it was such a breath of fresh air to introduce him to a book that is SO WELL WRITTEN, and has such a great message of perseverance and overcoming obstacles. The Audience Guide says 4th-7th grade, but I think even younger grades might be ok, especially if parents read it with, or to, their 1st-4th grader, as the subject matter in parts can be a little emotional, and a few concepts would be helpful to pause and talk about. (I wanted to pause and talk about ALL the parts!!) The way the book jumps from Joe's childhood to adulthood every-other chapter might be confusing at first if kids aren't familiar with that literary device. One thing that would have helped this confusion is if the book designer/publisher made the little icon of the rowers under the chapter # (which is ALWAYS the same) different for the chapters that have to do with his youth. For example, only use that crew/boat icon on the chapters about the UW team, but for the other chapters use a different icon/illustration that has to do with his childhood to help guide the reader when there's a time switch.I have not read the original version, but plan to because this was such a compelling and captivating story. I hope they make a movie out of it, too.
A wonderful book for people of all ages. An easier read for the younger set; however, all of the important messages are still included. It relays the hopes and dreams of those who came from a somewhat common upbringing to the World Stage of sports.
This book is one of my favorites to date, not only is it a true story that takes place in my own region, but also it clearly shows how hard it was to live in the middle of the 1930s. Even though Joe Rantz has an incredibly hard childhood, he achieves success as a person and an athlete with physical strength, perseverance, and becoming a self-made man. The author uses descriptive language and powerful emotion to show exactly what is going on throughout the book. In the end, you feel the book has taught you that working hard impacted his success the most. Boys in the Boat takes place in the mid-1930s in Washington State. The main character, Joe Rantz wants to be successful in life. To do this, he must overcome many challenges such as poverty, lack of family and most of all, his struggle to do it all on his own. Joe wants to be successful without any help. But Joe realizes how many people helped him on his way to his goal. Ultimately, Joe’s success in rowing is linked to his work on a team. In order to pay for college at The University of Washington, Joe gets a job at the Grand Coulee Dam construction site. To work on the dam, you need to be strong. “The jackhammer work was brutal, for eight hours a day he dangled on a rope in furnace like heat of the canyon, pounding at the wall of rock in front of him. The jackhammer seemed to have a life of its own, constantly trying to rip itself out of his (Joe’s) grip.†(P.119). This shows how Joe must use his physical strength to succeed at the dam. Joe faces many challenges on his way to success. His perseverance is seen repeatedly throughout the book. One example of this is when he was living in Sequim as a teenager without a family. “Joe began to fend entirely for himself. He drove iron stakes into the ground to defend the chicken coop […] He foraged in the dripping woods for mushrooms.†(P.52). We see that Joe just keeps pushing himself to be able to survive without anyone around to help him.When Joe was in Sequim, he had to be a self-made man to survive. “He dug tunnels under tree stumps and pried them out of the earth with iron bars […] He stooped and scraped with a shovel, digging irrigation ditches by hand […] He lugged one hundred twenty pound cans of milk and sweet cream around dairy farms.†(P.54). This shows how many different jobs Joe needed to survive without a family. Another example of Joe being a self-made man is when he is in Sequim trying to make a living. “From now on, he would make his own way. He would find his own route to happiness, as his father had said.†(P.52). Joe is making a big decision to move forward.Throughout everything, Joe deals with being abandoned at a young age and struggling to survive. Joe’s story gives us an example of how physical strength, perseverance, and being a self-made man leads to great success. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and 2 thumbs up! This book is a great read.
Growing up in Seattle, with a historian for a mother, I cannot imagine a richer, more immersive journey through my home town and surrounding areas during the depression and early years. The story of Joe Rantz is inspiring and his humble nature and character carry the story. The boat itself is an amazing blend of hard work and the most precise level of collaborative effort I now feel I have "experienced" by reading this. I bought the abridged version to read to my children and now have started the documentary online -- make sure to read the book first!The last book I could not put down and felt I learned much during the process was Seabiscuit which this book has been compared to over and over again.
The Boys in the Boat was the selection for our book club but no copies were available! Turning to Amazon for the book I was pleased to see a version for my KINDLE. However- I was surprised to find it to be a Young Readers Adaptation. With just 2 days remaining before the book club meeting I had no choice but to go ahead and read it. I don't know what differences there are between this version and the one for adults but I certainly would recommend either for the example of success through hard work, determination and trust -- a difficult attitude to acquire for young and "old alike. What a great story about young boys who overcame a lot of hardships to win the Olympic gold in Germany in rowing and coming from the backgrounds they all had. It was heart-breaking to read about a young boy being abandoned by his parents.Mary DeBoer
Must have for the bookshelf. The story starts of with boat building detail into the minutiae level. But hang with reading thru this because this is a serious building block to establishing this amazing story. If you skip over it, you'll lose. The author was able to interview the last surviving member of this boat crew. The man died 4 months after the interview. What a blessing to our historical knowledge that the author had such divine timing. And see the PBS special!
Having read the adult book I bought this young readers edition of The Boys in the Boat right away for two of my grandchildren. This true story of team work, overcoming hardships and courage is one that is as important today as it was newsworthy 80 years ago. We can all learn from their example.

I was totally immersed in this book. I knew of the Buffalo Soldiers, but not much and certainly did not know that a woman dressed as a man and served for years in the Cavalry. I walked with the infantry, rode with the cavalry and suffered their hardships. When an author can get me so emotionally involved in a novel, that makes it a good book for me. The descriptive text made me see the surroundings vividly and as the story unfolded I tried to read more and more, wanting to get to the conclusion. Now that I have finished it I am emotionally exhausted! The only thing I wish is that the author said where the portrait of Cathy William is hanging and I would like to know her sources for the factual information on her. I know there is little though. So, congratulations to this extremely talented author who wrote a riveting novel.
Just finished Sarah Bird’s newest novel, Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen, and found it outstanding. A former slave posing as a man during the Civil War, Cathy Williams continues her deception post-war and joins the Buffalo Soldiers to follow the man she loves. Based on a true story, Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen beautifully illuminates a neglected corner of history.
This is a book for the ages, one I could not put down. Told in the first person by a black woman who was freed from slavery at the end of the Civil War, she headed West to join the cavalry disguised as a man. She enlisted and became a member of the Buffalo Soldiers, one of several African American Cavalry units who opened up the American West and made Westward expansion possible. It is a story of undying love, bravery, and one incredible woman who faced racism in the US military. If you enjoy historical fiction, I wholeheartedly recommend this novel.
This book is glorious...beautifully written and emotionally captivating. I was so completely immersed in this story that I felt like I WAS Cathy Williams, living her life with determination and courage. Written from Cathy’s point of view, her voice was clear and honest and raw. This is a story that needed to be told, my world is richer for having read it.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. I got it on Audible and on my Kindle and I had many moments when I would not get out of the car because I was at a point when I could not leave the story. The strength of this woman comes to life in Bird's telling the story of the only woman Buffalo Soldier. HIstory buffs will love the details of the Civil War and post Civil War soldier life. I am not sure if I cried at the end or because the story was so moving because it was over. Read this book!
A little -known piece of history comes to life in this book. I'd heard of the Black Buffalo Soldiers but not that one of them was a woman. Through the genre of historical fiction, Cathy Williams ' story is now told.

The literal voice of the narrator and the written voice of character Cathy Williams was so engaging. I have recommended this book to SO many people who have also loved it! A wonderful blend of history and fiction. I also found the author's interview at the end of the audio production absolutely fascinating....as she tells about how this story came to be! Highly recommend!

For an average white boy from the suburbs, reggae grabbed me hard and has never let go.Roger Steffens and I had stumbled on this sublime musical form in much the same way while living in the Bay Area in 1973. Over the years he has become the leading Bob Marley authority, and like me came to value reggae as not just a wonderful musical genre but a very special way to see the world.Oral histories can be messy, but that is why they can be far more illuminating than straight nonfiction prose. In the case of “So Much Things To Say,†this format and the sometimes contradictory memories of Bob render a humanness to a man who has been endlessly mythologized.
I began going to Jamaica during Easter break in 1972 and was introduced to the Wailers and Bob by a man I came to know who had a stand up in the hills overlooking MoBay. Many subsequent hours and trips to Jamdown I spent with Junior in his hill top yard, chalice in hand, listening to the Wailers and Bob as their music matured and roots culture spread globally. My first trip to Nine Mile after Bob passed was a milestone. This book brings back so many lasting memories it's just wonderful.
If you don't know a lot about Bob Marley, most of this book will be over your head. This is a truly wonderful book that fills in the details of events as told by those who were there. Oral history books do not spoon feed you with an overview of the stories they tell. You need to have an appreciation of who is telling the stories and how the information enriches what you already know. I love Jamaica, its history, its music, and all thing Marley. I have read many books on Marley, listened to all the music of Marley- and those before, with, and after him. The Marley videos and a trip to Kingston are required for the true fan. The oral history format really allows you to feel the rhythm in the conversation of so many key people in music history. If you are a Marley fan or a reggae aficionado, this book is a must read.You should have access to his music while you read this - you will want to re-listen to much of it as the classic albums and tracks are discussed.If you don't know a lot about reggae history and Bob Marley, this might not be the best first source to read. There are lots of other good books to read out there. But if you are a fan. Or were a fan. Or maybe forgot the magic you felt when you first listened to Survival, this book is definitely for you.

Three simple and reasonable assumptions must be made before entering any negotiation.1. The other party exists.2. The other party's interests exist.3. The other party's power exists.Negative emotions often lead to accommodating the other party (guilt), avoiding conflict altogether (fear) or attacking the opposition (guilt). Needless to say, these tactics do not foster respect and are the result of emotional short circuits run amok. One of the most important components of the solution is to recognise your own emotions and seeing them as events that are happening to you, rather than as something you are. "I am angry" is far less productive than "I feel anger." That is not to say that emotions are something that must be suppressed. That is often counterproductive and tends to result in emotional outbursts at a later date. Emotions can often signal problems or opportunities that can be uncovered and dealt with. Detaching oneself from feelings of intense anger, fear, guilt, anxiety or apprehension can be very effective when preparing for a negotiation. Calming oneself, going to the balcony and refusing to give in to one's own temper or indignation will often foster respect from the other party.Three essential points must be uncovered before initiating any negotiation. What do you want to create that is of value to you? How will you protect it once you have it? What can you change that doesn't work? Ury uses the example of Southwest Airlines, a superlative leader in the US air transport industry. By selecting profit, reliable flights and fast turnover, it did away with reserved seats and meals on its flights. This proved to be a very successful strategy. Taking customers out to extravagant meals before delivering bad news can also help dampen the disappointment that is almost certain to result. Again, the key is to build, nurture and sustain healthy, productive and win-win relationships for all parties.Ury's most insightful (and counter-intuitive) insight concerns how to help your adversary cross your golden bridge to agreement. It is a tactic that few will devise on their own. When dealing with the other side's representative, always keep in mind the fact that they are accountable to their constituents, and if they cannot convince them that their agreement was the right thing to do under the circumstances, they will likely be reticent and reject any deals you may offer. Helping them see the benefits for their constituents and helping them save face (or even gain respect) among their stakeholders will make agreement more likely (to say nothing of the benefits for both relationships).In summary, begin with a firm, assertive Yes! Continue by asserting your interests and explain why you are not willing to accept unreasonable demands. Finish with a Yes?, and propose a reasonable solution that will lead to a win-win solution for all parties.
I found this book by William Ury to be as groundbreaking and revolutionary as Ury's blockbuster hit "Getting to Yes." Ury makes the critical point that is better to say no than to accept a bad deal that will inevitably lead to future conflict. The best way to say no is thoroughly explored in this book and it is worth the time to read since saying no is such a sensitive subject to most relationships.The Ury approach is to first articulate your needs, i.e. your yes, and to be able to explain how your needs are not being met by the bad deal. The next step is to say no is a way that is emphatic and to stick to your no so as not to cave to the other side's pressure. Finally, you then make a counter-proposal, i.e. your "yes," so as to preserve and continue the relationship. This "yes, no, yes" approach may sound simple but it is not.Ury's books have been referred to me by several law professor over the years as part of my legal training. I have found Ury's books eminently practical yet paradigm shifting. I heartily recommend the power of a Positive No as well as all the other Ury books on negotiation.

William Ury is the co-author of the well-known book Getting to YES. In this book he explains how he has come to realize that getting to yes is only half of the picture. Ury even says that "whether and how we say No determines the very quality of our lives." The reason is that word No is indispensible whenever you have to stand up for what really matters to you.Certain situations can create tension between an issue which is important to you and a relatinoship that is also important to you. This tension can make us fall into the three-A trap of Accomodation (saying yes when we mean No), Attacking (responding forcefully) and Avoiding (doing nothing at all). Ury presents the positive No as a way out. In short this means:1. Yes! -> positively and concretely describing your core interests and values2. No. -> explicitely link your no to this YES!3. Yes? -> suggest another positive outcome or agreement to the other personUry goes into much detail about how to prepare, deliver, and follow through your positive No. His style of wrting is crystal clear and his examples are interesting. Some examples are probably very recognizable to many readers (like: how do you say to someone who wants to borrow money from you when you don't want to). Other examples are much grander (how to negotiate in an inter-ethnic conflict) and also interesting. The core idea of this book is very simple and very important. I was perhaps most interested to read Chapter 2 which explain the importance of a Plan B, which is your backup for your prefered outcome. I'll end this review with a quote by the great No-sayer Mahatma Gandhi (which is mentiond on page 7): "A `No' uttered from deepest conviction is better and greater than a `Yes' merely uttered to please or what is worse, to avoid trouble.

I want to organize a workshop on it amongst my friends so we can practice it together, using this book.It's also a breeze to read. Ury's other book, "Getting to Yes," is a bit of a slog by comparison, unless you actually work in negotiation. This book is more relevant to the life of the average person.

This book covers a crucially important period in the history of food in the USA. The time around WW1 is fascinating, and Veit brings attention to the growth of "domestic science" food reform, ans to the intense public attention paid to food during the war. Veit has found some amazing details about the period, so the book is full of surprises, and her writing is lively and reader-friendly. This would be a wonderful book for a seminar on food and nationalism, or a class on American history.
I had no idea that events leading up to WWI contributed to our modern diet. After reading the book, I had a much better understanding of my grandmothers and their attitudes toward food—which they of course passed on to my parents and eventually me. I’d love to find more books like this one. Very insightful.
Modern Food, Moral Food is an excellent resource for 20th-c. food historians. It is also very approachable for the non-academic reader. Helen Zoe Veit's work explains the complex ways that Americans came to see certain foods as having a quality of righteousness.
