This book offers a unique perspective that I have not seen in any of those other books. I started using the ideas/concepts right away with my team and I intend to encourage my players to read the book. This book is invaluable for any female athlete and coach of female athletes.

Everything Your Coach Never Told You Because You're A Girl by Dan Blank might just as well be titled "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: If Clint Eastwood was Your Coach". It's a classic, it's a 5 star show, and it will never be old. I'll be hanging onto this book and reading it again and again whenever I think I've lost my competitive edge and need a few good reminders about what it takes to be a winner.I use to play but now I coach. I've read every book Dan Blank has written so far except for Happy Feet and this is one of his best (BTW all of his books are excellent). While the title of this book implies it's just for girls, in fact I found it's loaded with stuff my coach never told me and I'm a boy. Perhaps coaches never told me "truths about winning" because they assumed somehow I instinctively knew how to be an outlaw. I believe this book is just as relevant for boys as it is for girls however nobody has ever written something like this for girls, at least that I know of and that makes this book bodacious.There's no "beating around the bush" writing here, from the get go Blank goes straight into the psyche of serious competitors and it's not dressed up in the slightest. I read Dan Blank's other books rather quickly (they're hard to put down) but this book was a tough read for me because I wasn't prepared for its intensity. Temporarily I found I had turned into a full-time competitor, something normal society does not considered as acceptable behavior. Dan Blank mentions this in the book i.e. the arena of competition versus normal everyday society. The problem was, I was on Chapter 20 titled "Be the Bully" and I became the bully. I wanted to win everything and it didn't matter who I was competing against, whether it was fair, or if the other person even knew it was a competition. I checked my attitude soon enough and continued reading this book in smaller doses, there's a lot of power written in these pages that could mess you up mentally (that or I'm just weak and worship this guy).Dan Blank deserves a lot credit in my opinion for having the courage to write this book. I think he has possibly opened himself up to receive criticism from the coaching community, especially from the youth coaching community. It's important to keep in perspective this book is for college soccer players. If you've read any of his books it's obvious he's a very passionate college soccer coach who has a unique and valuable perspective about competition that anyone would enjoy and learn from reading. If you are a competitive player this book will only make you better and I highly recommend it. If you're like me and have transitioned into coaching (youth coaching) I also highly recommend this book but you may also want to read "Changing the Game" by John O'Sullivan as a companion just to keep balance within the force. Dan Blank is the Sith Lord of winning and John O'Sullivan is Yoda, you'll meet your destiny when you are ready and there's no reason to face your father when you are only 9, never getting the chance to face him when you are in your prime.This is an amazing book that will make you think and ponder "The Meaning of Life" (Chapter 33). I wonder if there are any secrets he didn't give away in this book? Lastly, please don't buy this book as I'd prefer to have the advantage if we ever meet in the arena of competition when I destroy you without regret or remorse, laugh when you cry, and rub it in during my interview. Thanks for writing another fantastic book.
It's over...i just finished reading the best coach, athlete, competitor book ever! I'm not a reader at all. This book captured me immediately. I coach/teach softball and am a much better leader as a result of the words on these pages. I have been reading a few pages every morning before my workouts. I'm gonna miss the inspiration it has provided to my mornings. May just have to read it again.
This book is amazing. I have coached boys for years and was recently hired to coach high school girls soccer for the first time. In order to prepare for the upcoming season (we play in the spring), I desperately sought material that would help me get into the mindset of the female athlete and to raise my awareness of issues that I haven't had to deal with so far.This book delivered well beyond that to the point where it is the single greatest coaching text that I have EVER read. The material is definitely applicable to female athletes, but so much of it can be applied to males as well. Even though it was written about soccer players, the concepts discussed are universal to all sports - and even to life in general. I could not put it down.I have already started recommending it to my fellow coaches and even my athletes. It really sets the stage for a winning mentality.
Although it's aimed at female soccer players, the principles in this book apply to anyone who wants to know what it really takes to win. I initially picked it up because the title was interesting but I ended up highlighting a bunch of parts that I feel are applicable to anyone who wants to succeed in competition. If you're interested on getting a unique perspective on just what it takes to be a consistent winner, buy this book.
I have been coaching girls for years and he had a valid point about coaches being too sensitive about girls psychological well being while coaching. All this pampering makes girls feel they should be coached in a “soft mannerâ€. Even US Soccer teaches this. This book is blunt and to the point. Girls can be made warriors too!!!

This book is a god send, lots of valuable information here! I have fasted many times and always get amazing benefits. Don't count on the institutions to tell us what we need to cure ourselves, because they simply will not. There is too much money to be lost if things like grape diets were being recommended to people and people were actually ridding themselves of disease without expensive drugs and expensive medical treatments. I have rid myself of severe scalp psoriasis that I've suffered from for 11 years by doing a 10 day grape diet, which included fasting. It was that simple. All the drugs, corticosteroids, toxic shampoos, and doctors appointments didn't help me, but a simple grape diet and fasting did. So much money and time was wasted, not to mention harming myself with toxic drugs and shampoos, while the solution was so simple and so natural and so healthy, and doesn't cost anything! This book is easy to read and packed with information in so little pages. God bless all the people working hard to get this valuable information out there. This book claims that the diet can cure diseases much more severe than scalp psoriasis, and I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't, because the results I got were amazing and totally unexpected, and scalp psoriasis is not even mentioned in the book. I would highly recommend this book and this diet. I have not followed the diet completely, but fasting alone has dramatically improved my life and health. I'm sure following the diet completely would have even greater benefits!
I discovered Prof. Ehret's teachings while doing research on the power of a raw food diet. The book was an easy read. The topic is of great interest to me so I read the book in one day. Prof. Ehret spent years traveling the world and documenting the effects of a raw diet, particularly it's effect on physical health. His findings support what I already knew to be true through my own personal journey. I highly recommend this book especially to anyone experiencing health issues. The beauty of Prof. Ehret's suggested diet is that, unlike pharmaceutical treatment, it does no harm. Try it with an open mind and a positive spirit. This book is now in my top 5 list of "most important books to read for health and longevity".
Professor Arnold Ehret is legendary. I have bought and given away this book at least a dozen times. It is a must read for anybody concerned with learning how to eat their way to maximum health. His book "Rational Fasting" is the bible for those wanting to learn how to fast safely.This edition, though not the official edition from Ehret Publishing, contained all the correct copy and the price was right, too.Highly recommended.
It's amazing how far ahead of his time, this professor Ehret was. He's discovered decades, almost a century ago what the most awoke scientists have just recently been discovering. This man to me is the Einstein of his world, regardless of the fact that he hasn't received such recognition, well deserved on his part. Read this book in search of a different truth from what you're being constantly fed in a capitalist economically motivated society and you, too, will come to acknowledge his genius and revere him for his accomplishments.

However, I no longer have alcohol (two a month) and am trying to adjust my diet.NEXT DAY EDIT;AMAZON ALLOWED ME TO RETURN THE BOOK, AND IN RETURN, I BOUGHT THE KINDLE VERSION AND HAVE READ MOST OF IT. Perhaps, the book should be titled, THE BOOK OF FASTING, as it is deficient in terms of justifying the diet.On page location 803, the author makes two statements;1. These tables (start page location 809) by Ragner Berg were published in Germany 10 years after my "mucus theory" of disease and food qualities had been taught, and Berg unconsciously gave the scientific proof that my "mucus theory" is correct.2. The mere fact that some foods given in the list are "acid-binding" does not necessarily mean that I endorse their use.As for statement 1, where is the proof? Or is that the same as the author's statement on P 512 that "it is self evident how important iron is in the blood," because it is red?Statement 2 is one indication how the author leaves you hanging as to what the SYSTEM is. A system is a process that has clearly defined steps to take. Ehret talks about the foods he teaches us to eat. I ask what foods do you approve of and why? Why do you recommend eating wheat bread which is mucus forming where pumpernickel is acid-binding?It is totally unclear how to progress from the beginning to a lifestyle. I would suggest that the author create an outline of his "system" and then write about it.I can see fasting this way, but vegetarian diets are notoriously deficient in protein. I am sorry, but I am not a cow, and I don't have five stomachs to chow down on greens (p547).

While a beginner, I have been programming for a little while now and the time came for me to put my code into a repository. I was dreading it."version control with subversion" gently and quickly took me into using Subversion. I needed to read the first few chapters twice, after that I downloaded and installed the code, and viola, my code is version controlled with minimal effort.Subversion linked readily with my IDE, Netbeans, although subversion with different IDEs is not really covered in this book.Thanks to this book, I did not have take my mind of my main project for long.I read the rest of the book (skim reading some sections) and it provides clear instructions on other possibilities, and how to set up more complex and tailored systems.A good read, presenting good knowledge, and good instruction.My evidence is that I am now using Subversion well, whereas two weeks ago I had no clue.
Lots of information but I still struggle with configuration. If you are a user of svn or setting up a client this is a good book.
This book is both an excellent way to learn Subversion from scratch and an invaluable reference guide to experienced users. The material in this book is on par with (and often better than) the material available in corporate "live, instructor-led" training courses. This book covers everything from the high-level, conceptual view of Subversion to command-line usage details to the low-level internal workings of the Subversion code. Best of all, the book is easy to read and the authors use just the right amount of diagrams and flow charts (enough to clear up any questions, but not so many as to be overwhelming or distracting). I can't imagine working on a Subversion-powered project without this book. Highly recommended
I have been using CVS and SVN for more than 10 years. The enhanced merge feature in SVN 1.5 is a much needed capability. This book does a good job of describing branching and merging, what is really happening in SVN, and how to use SVN properly to meet our branching needs. That said, if you are doing multi-site, mostly independent multi-developer software development and haven't implemented a SCM system, I suggest you use GIT.
