I first became aware of Karl Ludvigsen's by his series `home town rivalry' in `Forza'.To have those articles complete and expanded in a single volume, for me provides a ready reference available without culling through many magazines. The depth of knowledge and historic photographs defies description beyond ` he makes you feel you are there'
Red-Hot Rivals:Ferrari Vs.Maserati Epic Clashes for Supremacy is another Karl Ludvigsen Masterpiece,Although I am a Huge Corvette Fan and The Book of all Books is Karl's Corvette America's Star-Spangled Sportscar which by the way was re-released/revised updated and expanded to close to 800 pages now.(2014 Edition Bentley Publishers,First edition 1973,2nd Edition revised 1978 all which I have.I also have his short small book he did before that Guide to Corvette Speed 1969.)When I first saw this book which was set back if I recall correctly when I first saw on Amazon then it came out it was on my wish list for a long time.Well I brought it and since I am familiar With Karl's Work having first read The Aforementioned book I knew I would not be disappointed. I am partial to Lamborghini and Intrigued by Maseratis But I appreciate the Older Ferrari cars mainly sports cars.This is book is about Real Racing when Men were Men and Racing was Racing and Cars were Cars and Ran on Politically Incorrect fuels.The ingenuity of many such as Fangio,Ascari,Hill,Surtees and others that need not be mentioned along with the Racing wheel to wheel of The Prancing Horse versus the once Mighty Trident,the book is full of pictures alot of black and white and just as much Color.Maserati sadly was once SocialistState Owned(State Owned is Socialist regardless)along with the Argentine DeTomaso and then Chrysler's Castroite Lee Iacocca and then into That other Socialist FIAT and into its rival and back again is chronicled,the book covers up to 2008 events and features The MC12 thank Goodness there is no pictures of the hideously styled yet similar Enzo despite it's mention.This book explains more than a review can ever do it justice about Two Giants.
