While a beginner, I have been programming for a little while now and the time came for me to put my code into a repository. I was dreading it."version control with subversion" gently and quickly took me into using Subversion. I needed to read the first few chapters twice, after that I downloaded and installed the code, and viola, my code is version controlled with minimal effort.Subversion linked readily with my IDE, Netbeans, although subversion with different IDEs is not really covered in this book.Thanks to this book, I did not have take my mind of my main project for long.I read the rest of the book (skim reading some sections) and it provides clear instructions on other possibilities, and how to set up more complex and tailored systems.A good read, presenting good knowledge, and good instruction.My evidence is that I am now using Subversion well, whereas two weeks ago I had no clue.
Lots of information but I still struggle with configuration. If you are a user of svn or setting up a client this is a good book.
This book is both an excellent way to learn Subversion from scratch and an invaluable reference guide to experienced users. The material in this book is on par with (and often better than) the material available in corporate "live, instructor-led" training courses. This book covers everything from the high-level, conceptual view of Subversion to command-line usage details to the low-level internal workings of the Subversion code. Best of all, the book is easy to read and the authors use just the right amount of diagrams and flow charts (enough to clear up any questions, but not so many as to be overwhelming or distracting). I can't imagine working on a Subversion-powered project without this book. Highly recommended
I have been using CVS and SVN for more than 10 years. The enhanced merge feature in SVN 1.5 is a much needed capability. This book does a good job of describing branching and merging, what is really happening in SVN, and how to use SVN properly to meet our branching needs. That said, if you are doing multi-site, mostly independent multi-developer software development and haven't implemented a SCM system, I suggest you use GIT.

I was looking for something that would tie my classroom management strategy neatly into a single package but have not found that magic missing piece. My school district uses several different programs (Capturing Kids Hearts, Kids at Hope, and some of the schools use Make You Day). I like to share with my students WHY it is important to Choose Kind (from the book Wonder (our first read aloud of the year). I have tried incorporating things from Whole Brain Teaching and even Kagan Strategies but it all seemed so disjointed.Until now!!! This book teaches the students about the brain and how different parts of the brain respond to different things. It teaches students how they respond to stress and why. It teaches them to recognize which part of their brain is in control and then asks them if that is truly the part that should be in charge OR if there is a better decision that they should be making.As if that is not enough, the author took the time to tie each of the lessons to CCSS standards so teachers can justify the use of it in the classroom. There are additional books (literature) you can use as read alouds to help make each topic come to life. Each unit is meant to last 2 weeks and the book is designed to be taught over the course of the year. I love how it ties in the sense and some great science lessons.This is excellent for your ADHD, Shy, and students with anger issues. I cannot wait to begin to use it this upcoming school year.
I love the ease of teaching the program however, I wish there were more visuals and/or activity ideas for the kids as well as a digital download of some lessons, videos, etc. to go along with the program
I like the curriculum, but no resources available. I went to the website and the resources are limited. It would be nice to get a code to access the handouts online and other resources to help teach the lessons. With that said, it is a great curriculum to help students learn mindfulness and kids do enjoy.
I got this curriculum just for the summer to prevent backslide of my rising 1st graders skills. I thought I'd get some ideas to couple with other basic workbooks I got. I am only a few lessons in, but I love the way it breaks down each lesson and provides ideas for hands-on work and thoughtful discussion. I must admit that I feel like I am learning just as much as my son about self-control and mindfulness. The huge poster of the brain is a big hit too!I will update this once we finish.
This curriculum is just what I need to help my fourth grade students begin to understand the way their brains work, and learn how to regulate their emotions. I love the way that it directly teaches brain science to students, and they love it too! I like the reproducible worksheets that are provided, as well as the brain facts poster. Although, I do find myself creating a lot more visuals (posters, powerpoints, etc) to supplement so that I am not just stuck reading or lecturing aloud to my students.I took one star off because the lesson plans are kind of confusing and not what I was expecting based on the description. I saw that there were 15 lessons and thought that it would be perfect to implement lessons once or twice a week. However, this curriculum expects you to set aside time almost every day if you want to teach the full curriculum within one school year. The lessons are actually made up of several parts that are meant to be taught over a 2-week period.
I am an elementary school counselor, and I used almost all of the lessons included for a study skills class after school. This is a nice introduction to mindfulness and self-regulation.
I am a second grade teacher with 27 wonderful years of experience. This is by far one of the most intelligently written programs I have seen to aid in the social and emotional development of children. I piloted the program this year and found the lessons and activities engaging for the students, and easy to implement for the teacher. The children learned so much about their brains, the way they think and process, and how to optimize the use of their brains and senses. I taught the program right before standardized state testing, and it greatly helped the students focus and feel calm during a stressful two weeks. I also incorporated the lessons as part of our community service unit. It fit in beautifully! I think all students, grade K-12, would benefit from the simple, yet powerful, ideas and skills put forth by the MindUp creators.The only suggestion I would have is to actually expand the lessons to be more step-by-step, with lists of materials to have ready. It took quite a bit of work to plan out, prepare and script out what I was going to teach. I would suggest the authors look to a program like Second Step or FOSS to make the program more teacher-friendly and to make sure all suggested resources are readily available (many books are out of print). Perhaps online teacher videos such as FOSS has would be beneficial?Nevertheless, these are minor flaws. The $25 I spent for the book made it the cheapest, best professional program I have ever purchased! I HIGHLY recommend it to all teachers concerned about the development of the whole child. BRAVO!

I appreciate what a mentor once termed "small volume" books. To earn five stars from me, the book must be concise and well written, and be a resource I will refer to again and again. Purple Squirrel is just that. Once delivered to my Kindle, I read the "small volume" twice in one evening. Author Michael B Junge writes with energy that motivates, and provides extremely applicable information designed to help you repackage yourself in a purple furry suit with a bushy tail. Many of us today would describe our skills and employment experience as "Welll....." An author who presents a resource that is "concise" and "well written" can help you present yourself as just what the prospective employer is looking for.
I am retired and love being retired. I do not want to go back to work. So why would I choose to read a book such as this one? Well, I like psychology and want to know what makes people tick. The author did an excellent job of telling his readers step by step how to write a resume, network to learn about job openings and to get recommendations, how to do your best in an interview, how to give notice at your old job, and how to transition to the new job. There were a few errors overlooked by the editor, but the content of the book was so good that I could not reduce my rating because of a few minor errors.
Very few get this detailed. However, it needs an update. Markets change and people have to change with them. I guess that's why people still call Executive Recruiters. We are needed as not everyone has the time to spend 20 years experiencing something that someone needs now. Great book - just need update !
It's ok but not too much ground breaking information here. Self help books are typically the same but this one wasn't a struggle to get through like most are.
You know when you come across an idea that you've intuitively known, but never quite articulated? There's that "A ha!" moment you have when the idea clicks. While reading Purple Squirrel I experienced a number of those. Some new ground was broken for me, but for the most part the experience of reading this book was more one of turning nebulous concepts that I already had absorbed into concrete, actionable forms.Purple Squirrel was an easy read, and it was absolutely worth my time. If you're looking for a job, trying to figure out what you want to do with your life, or are just trying to gather more information about how the job market works, Purple Squirrel will be a good read for you.
Tons of books on the market tout a "secret" that you don't know about job search, but you often find it's the same old stuff you've heard a million times. I was pleasantly surprised with Purple Squirrel. This book had a great balance of the basics with a good bit of detailed and helpful information...and it wasn't just about how to re-format your resume! It was a comprehensive look at how to approach the whole process. Kudos to Michael B. Junge.
It is good for someone in middle management in the business world, but not so much for in the scientific world or for just graduating with no experience. It relies heavily on one being able to show value to future employers by presenting projects that were completed in previous job situations and that you know the $ value of the impact on the company that you left.
Different approach to job seeking process. Instead of applying to hundred job offers, you represent yourself on the Web from professional point of view, and that makes employers contact you. After short time from starting reading this book and updating my LinkedIn profile I've got contacted by HR manager from some well-known company. And I even didn't look for a job.This book has a good set of advises. And it will take you little time to both read this book and improve job seeking process simultaneously. Of course, you'd need to posses needed skills and experience to find desired job, but this book will give you a possibility to look at the process differently, and with this improve it.

I searched and searched for this Bible. I already had a message Bible but it was too heavy and didn't have the chapters numbered. I just got this two days ago and so far really love it. I'm going to order more for Easter baskets and graduation gifts.
I was hesitant to get this version of The Message because it had a smaller font size than what I was looking for. That and I figured a gift bible for $11 would just end up disappointing me in quality. I'm glad I ended up buying it. In reality this bible has an amazing quality and feel to it for such an astoundingly good deal.The font size is still quite readable due to a great typeset and arrangement of the text and chapter and verse numbers. There is minimal ghosting on a nice bright white paper. I have smaller difficulties reading it than I do another bible I bought in similar size with a font size 2 points larger. It's not just the size of the font, it's the thickness and color of the page and how the lines and spacing is arranged that makes a text readable.I also appreciate that the cover, while simple, feels well made. There's nothing fancy about this bible. But it's design is almost perfect. The dimensions, weight, and text are all just right in both one hand or two. This is a highly readable translation in a highly readable bible. I look forward to putting it to good use in the days ahead. In fact, I plan to buy several more copies to give out just because this is such a good implementation for such a small price.
Like any Bible. It may not be the "Word of God" but, that said, it is the Bible and can get you started on understanding a passage. The "real" Word is what God speaks to the Person that lives inside of you. If He doesn't interpret and speak to you, then you might have a different challenge in your life. This Bible is a pleasant read and is a lot of "fun" for me (an older "evangelical" kind of person). From a read, I jump to other translations as "the Lord leads". This one gives me the rudiments of the "manna" and there still is the process of prep and ingestion and digestion and application. I gave some of these away as gifts.
So happy I finally purchased this. I'm enjoying reading a version of the Bible that has different verbiage than what I'm used to, as it makes me actually think about what is being conveyed. This specific one is a great size for reading and looks like it will hold up well.
It's a nice bible that reads like a story more than the Word of God. An offering of larger print would have been a plus for these old eyes.
What I liked most was present day language with all due respect to the source. My Pastor has been recommending this version for quite some time. So far, I have no fault to find. It is like you are being addressed directly by the apostle Paul.
Very easy to read and understand bible which is great for someone who has never read the bible or is young however they have left out things from the bible because it's a modern interpretation so you can't study from it and would still need to read a Kjv bible to get the parts missing as well as to study but still for reading and interpretating the bible it's great in fact it's so clear be ready to understand things differently than many Christians do these days. I was surprised they actually understand the bible as well as they do. Good bible considering I have read the entire bible and every version out there over 30 times.
Most of the message Bibles are very very expensive. This one I Purchased for around $10. I am extremely impressed. The pages or thick so you can’t see through to the next one. The text is dark so you can read it nicely. It is not huge but it is not tiny so it’s definitely legible really for not being in large print Bible. It lays flat when reading. The binding is nice and so was the cover. I actually re-purchased two more and I may get a few others as gifts for when I know someone needs a Bible. Don’t waste your money on one of the $50 or $60 ones when this one is absolutely perfect. The size of the Bible is very portable. In my opinion it’s perfect.

Love these books and I'm sure we have almost every one of them by now. These are easy for my daughter to follow along with and learn from. Started reading these to my daughter when she started biting at about a year and she's been picking different books from this series for the past 8 months when it's story time.
Great book to help toddlers build their social skills. Cute visuals and gives some clear alternatives that my 2-year old can remember when waiting his turn for a toy!
Just ok. A bit too simplistic and images don't clearly show the issues or resolutions. I have to add in a lot of explaining so my 3 year old gets it.
HOPING IT WILL WORK WITH MY SON WHOSE AN ONLY CHILD TO SHARE MORE AT DAYCARE AND WITH HIS YOUNGER COUSINS.
I bought several in this series for the twins for Christmas. They are7th months and really respond to the story messages. Just long enough, just enough detail.
We read this book very often with our kids. It help us to talk about their feelings and how aboyt other people feel too
